Amesbury Days Employee Appreciation Luncheon
Tuesday, July 1st from 11 am - 2 pm
Upper Millyard Amphitheater, Amesbury, MA"Beginning in 1899 as a one-day festival for employees of Amesbury’s various mills, Amesbury Days has grown into an over 120-year-old multi-day program of events, activities and celebrations drawing people from within and around the city. Little is known about that first celebration except that it began as a one-day outing at Lake Gardner for the employees of the town’s various mills. However we do know that the Second Annual Outing of the Merchants and Manufacturers of Amesbury was held on August 8th, 1900 and was promoted as “Amesbury Days at Hampton Beach.”
The beaches from Hampton to Salisbury provided backdrops for subsequent Amesbury Days until 1916 when the town’s firefighters proposed a field day at the new town park and the Amesbury Days Association voted to join them. On September 14th, 1916 the festival was moved into town and the town’s new park on Friend Street was officially dedicated. Amesbury Days has grown to a series of 15 + events for the whole family over the course of 12 days. Thanks for your interest and we look forward to seeing you in Amesbury!

D-Day Remembered: "Operation Overlord" and the Normandy Beach Landings - Custom House Maritime Museum - Presented by: Bronson de Stadler
Friday, 7/5 & 7/12 from 6:30 - 8:00 pm (estimated end time)
On the 80th anniversary of D-Day on June 6, 1944, we remember the land, air, and sea forces of the Allied armies brought together in the largest amphibious invasion in military history. Codenamed “Operation Overlord,” the operation, a pivotal moment in World War II, delivered five naval assault divisions to the beaches of Normandy, France. The beaches along a 50-mile stretch were codenamed Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword. The invasion force included 7,000 naval vessels and landing craft manned by over 195,000 naval personnel from eight allied countries. Nearly 160,000 troops from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and twelve other Allied nations landed on D-Day to face Hitler’s formidable Atlantic Wall. Learn about the complex Allied planning leading up to the invasion, daring military innovations, and what happened on the beaches of “The Longest Day” through known history and the personal experience of one naval landing craft operator on Utah Beach. A slide show and original, never-before-seen photos are part of the presentation.Bronson de Stadler is a retired clinical social worker and amateur historian, and lives in Newburport. His father was a naval petty officer and motor machinist’s mate on Utah Beach during the Normandy invasion.
In addition to this lecture, the CHMM will arrange a small exhibit highlighting important artifacts in the collections that pertain to the D-Day lands.

Maudslay Summer Concert Series - Brian Thomas Quintet
Saturday, 7/13 from 7 - 9:30 pm
Maudslay Arts Center (MAC), NewburyportBrian Thomas returns to Maudslay this summer, this time with his small group BT Allstars playing original soul jazz rooted in the tradition of a horn section backed by an organ trio rhythm section. Joining Brian will be tenor saxophonist Jon Bean, guitarist Steve Fell, organist Jordan Gravel, and drummer Dave Fox.
Whether you’re sitting under the stars on a moonlit evening, or lounging on a blanket on a Sunday afternoon, the Maudslay summer concert series provides the perfect setting for your entertainment pleasure. Now in it's 31st season, the MAC performance schedule offers something for everyone.
Concerts are held rain or shine. In fair weather, our outdoor stage seating provides the ideal al fresco setting, with table and chairs in our patio seating area, and bring your own blanket seating on the lawn. When weather dictates, the performances move inside to the MAC Concert Barn.
Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner, which can be casual or as elaborate as a gourmet meal with tablecloth and flowers and whatever suits the patron’s fancy. Delicious desserts such as seasonal cobblers, brownies, and ice cream, cold beverages, and coffee may be purchased during intermission, all served by dedicated MAC volunteers, who continue to make this nonprofit series happen.
Saturday performances start at 7 pm, with gates opening at 6 pm. Sunday performances start at 2 pm with gates opening at 1 pm. Enjoy open seating on the patio and lawn. Tables and chairs are provided on the patio.

15th Annual Buffet Beach Blast - Featuring Changes in Latitude, Premier Jimmy Buffet Tribute Band @Blue Ocean Music Hall
Friday, 7/19 from 6 - 10 pm (estimated end time)
6pm Tailgate Party / Doors open at 7 pm / Concert starts at 8 pmAbout Buffett Beach Blast:
One of the most fun events of the summer!
Fire up the grills, crank the tunes, pour the margaritas, and decorate the car. Start your evening at the tailgate party (separate ticket) in the adjacent parking lot then move inside for the show. Changes In Latitudes is the country’s premier tribute to the Mayor of Margaritaville, Jimmy Buffett. This nationally acclaimed band travels the country with beach balls and leis flying, dancing conga lines, and “Trop Rock” fun for all. It’s the ultimate beach party with an amazing authentic reproduction of the Jimmy Buffett concert experience.
Steve Kareta mimics Jimmy’s casual, storyteller style, while these world-class musicians, traveling with a full tropical stage set-up, will take you on a musical cruise through the sun-drenched waters of the Caribbean. You can expect to hear such classics as “Margaritaville”, “Come Monday”, “Cheeseburger In Paradise”, “Volcano”, and, of course, “Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes”, as well as other crowd-pleasing favorites, like “Brown Eyed Girl”, “Southern Cross”, “Another Saturday Night”, and the Alan Jackson / Jimmy Buffett hit “It’s Five O’clock Somewhere”.
It’s all to benefit the Salisbury Beach Partnership’s 11 weeks of free Summer outdoor concerts and fireworks shows!

Theater at the Bell presents Groundhog Day The Musical
Show times & days: 7/19, 7/20, 7/26 & 7/27 from 7:30 - 10 pm
Matinee show times & days: 7/20, 7/21, 7/27 & 7/28 from 2 - 5 pm
The Clark School, Rowley, MA
Critically acclaimed on both the West End and Broadway, Groundhog Day revels in one man's journey of self-discovery, day after day. Inspired by the hilarious film starring Bill Murray, Groundhog Day features a book by original co-screenwriter Danny Rubin, and music and lyrics by Tony Award nominee Tim Minchin (Matilda the Musical). How would you spend your time if forced to repeat the same day over and over again? Phil Connors, a seasoned big-city weatherman, is frustrated to be reporting the annual Groundhog Day Ceremony in small town Punxsutawney, PA. His arrogance and cynicism are in direct opposition to the cheery townsfolk, who are ready for their favorite Groundhog to not see his shadow and welcome an early spring. After disdainfully covering the rodent's negative forecast, he awakens the next day only to discover it's February 2 once more. Initially in disbelief, Phil finally accepts he is doomed to repeat the same day over and over again....
Will Phil accept that he is doomed to repeat the same day over and over again? Or will he find the courage to change himself and his fate?

Come support our Amazing Local Waiters & Waitresses as they proudly compete in their restaurant branded shirts for individual cash prizes and the overall Top Restaurant annual traveling trophy and bragging rights! The races kick off at 4:30 but it is fun to arrive a little early to watch some of the serious competitors as they warm up, strategize and assess other serious contenders. This totally entertaining event gives us a chance to cheer for our favorite waitstaff as they compete in a high speed walking competition where they are judged on both speed and spillage. In order to win, they must balance their tray which is loaded with light weight plastic water cups. This may not look difficult to spectators but it is important to note that the lightweight cups are far less stable than traditional glassware. Taking it to the next level, finalists must compete in the in the obstacle course round.
